Adopting in Russia: Your Rights and the Law

by Irina Mikhailovna O'Rear

Irina O’Rear is a former Russian judge who now lives in Florida and is currently president of the U.S. branch of the International Bar Association. Her insider’s perspective on Russian adoption makes her book a uniquely informative resource for Russia adopters.

The book begins by discussing why parents might choose to adopt from Russia. From there, the author describes what to expect in Russia—everything from travel information to what to expect in court. Parents awaiting an invitation to travel will be particularly grateful for the detailed descriptions of the adoption process from the Russian side.

Ms. O'Rear translates into English excerpts of Russian family law and offers her expert commentary on each. She also provides an indispensable, easy-to-use list of adoption-related words and phrases, in English word order and translated phonetically, using the Roman alphabet instead of the Russian Cyrillic.

Families adopting in Russia will consult this book daily for its valuable information and unique perspective.
