Each year, the Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS) Report provides detailed statistics of children in the U.S. foster care system, including age, time in care, case plan goal, sex, and race/ethnicity. The most recent statistics for Fiscal Year 2014 show a slight decline in foster adoptions in recent years. There were 50,841 children adopted with public child welfare involvement in 2013, and 50,644 in 2014. In 2010, that number was 53,547. The number of children waiting to be adopted has also risen, from 104,493 at the end of FY 2013 to 107,918 at the end of 2014.
