News Brief: Top Adoption-Friendly Workplaces in 2016 Offered Average of 5 Weeks Paid Leave

The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption released its tenth annual 100 Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces list. The rankings are based on the amount of financial reimbursement and length of paid leave per adoption, and include employers of all sizes.

Companies that made the list offer, on average, $8,000 in adoption expense reimbursement, and five weeks of paid leave, although benefits vary considerably. Top-ranked Ferring Pharmaceuticals offers up to $25,000 in financial support and 5.5 weeks paid leave. CauseLabs, with 16 U.S. employees, was the leading small business, offering up to $10,000 in reimbursement and 3 weeks paid leave.

Along with its annual list, the Dave Thomas Foundation offers resources to businesses that would like to become an adoption-friendly workplace. As the foundation persuasively explains, despite a very low rate of utilization (fewer than 1% of employees tend to use these benefits), offering adoption benefits creates a family-friendly environment that will help with recruitment efforts and increase loyalty and goodwill among existing employees. If your company is one the 52% of U.S. employers that offer no adoption benefits, share the DTFA’s Employer Toolkit.
