Foster Youth Becomes Miss Alabama’s Outstanding Teen

Foster youth Kaitlynn Campbell overcame her challenges to win the Outstanding Teen category of the Miss Alabama contest.

A foster youth wins Miss Alabama

Kaitlynn Campbell, a 17-year-old at Hayden High School in Alabama, defied the odds to win Miss Alabama’s Outstanding Teen while living in a group home, and in her very first pageant. The community rallied around the teen, who competed on the platform of Child Abuse and Neglect, donating money to cover entry fees, lending evening wear, and giving advice. Campbell is now celebrating more than one happy ending; along the way, Shelly and Bryan Roach met the teen, and have since become her foster parents.
